For a while now Darwine for OS X, an application that enables you to natively run Windows programs on you Mac, has been dead and stuck at version 0.9.12 from the Wine project. Since then someone has taken it into their own hands and compiles some more recent versions which you can use up to the latest, 0.9.38. You can find all the packages and instructions here.

Check out the compatible applications here.

Updates on OS X 10.4.9

Some updates on the current state of 10.4.9 for Hackint0shes.

First there is an update for the SSE3 kernel which fixes some code that was problematic for 64bit users that meant they had to run in legacy mode. Recommended for all users as it also contains a few bug fixes. As usual find it on IRC #Kernel. This has now become a universal kernel so it works for SSE2 and SSE3.

Next for those of you that find yourselves needing to reinstall OS X or for new users, the JaS 10.4.9 SSE3 DVD is now readily available on Demonoid. Please remember this is currently only for SSE3 users. Contains the 8.9.1 kernel. Find it here. Support on #JaS.DVD on IRC.

Apple Developer Connection today announced that there will be a feature complete beta available at the Worldwide Developers Conference 2007 of their upcoming OS, Leopard. This should be the long awaited unveiling of Apple's 'secret' new features which have yet to be announced and haven't been available in previous builds. These features may well stem from the recent flurry of patents filed by Apple including their revolutionary new desktop interface and Finder features. To see it live the WWDC 2007 starts on June 11 at San Francisco.

Just noticed this on my trawls of the web – an ACPICPUThrottler kext has been made by mac.nub that works with OS X 10.4.8 and 10.4.9 with Intel CPUs. If you visit his website here you can download the latest version and fine news. This will enable SpeedStepping on both SSE3 and SSE2 processors and works with the new kernels. This is meant as a replacement for the official Apple ACPICPUThrottler.kext.

Latest version is v1.01 here.

Mirrored the kext here.

Aiport Extreme 2007-003 Update

Apple have released an update to their Airport range with Aiport Extreme 2007-003 update.

"This is recommended for all Intel-based Macintosh computers and includes compatibility updates for certain third-party access points configured to use WPA™ or WPA2™ security."

I doubt Hackint0sh users will benefit from this however they should remember that kexts will need repatching after installing for Broadcom and Atheros based cards as the update will overwrite any customizations if they continue with it.
