Upcoming update, OS X 10.5.1 for Leopard has already been updated by Apple with no known issues and new features. Build 9B16 includes a new feature whereby moving Applications outside of the /Applications folder will still mean they get updated. Other fixes include a Finder bug fix and DNS resolving fixes.

Also if you wish to get your hands on the new 9.0.1 kernel from the beta update and are not using an EFI implementation to use native kernels then you can try Oraclex86’s patcher here. (Note: this is for the previous 9B13 build, I do not recommend using this as it is still a beta update.)

PC-EFI updated to V3 [UPDATE]

Netkas has updated his implementation of the PC-EFI code to version 3. If you haven’t been using this yet it allows you to run the stock kernel and unmodified if you have a Core 2 Duo, and with other systems it allows for unmodified kexts (still needs smbios on ToH installs). This works on both AMD and Intel systems except SSE2 and old Pentium 4 64-bit. If you are using this to run stock kernels then the new version has FSB detection and as such should work correctly if you don’t have 200Mhz FSB, this isn’t needed with modified kernels.

UPDATE: Netkas has updated this to version 4.0 which includes Grub multiboot support. You can also visit his new FAQ on EFI matters.

Netkas brings OSx86 one step closer to official

Netkas has developed a special version of the well known Darwin Bootloader that allows for someone with hardware similar to official Macs to boot with an unmodified kernel. The solution involves replacing several kexts and has been tested on a Core 2 Duo CPU with HPET. Other hardware configs will need modified kernels. Netkas currently will not be releasing this until further work has been done on emulating EFI on BIOS based systems as this is what real Macs use.

Update: If you have Core 2 Duo, grab the files here and try it yourself!

Apple recently released the source to the new Leopard kernel (9.0.0) and netkas has been able to build a better kernel with sleep and speedstep for SSE3 CPUs using it. Non-SSE3 64-bit CPUS such as the old Pentium 4s can now run 64-bit applications.

Finally, ATI Radeon 2600 Pro/XT users can now grab working kexts, again from netkas, on the irc channel #radeonhd (irc.osx86.hu).
