Now that Leopard has been out for a few days and the ToH install DVD has been well distributed I’ll look at some of the options of getting OS X Leopard on your beige box.

If you have the Leopard GM retail DVD (unpatched) you may want to look at making your own installer DVD. BrazilMac has an excellent tutorial with all the needed files and instructions for AMD, Intel and SSE3 users. Have a look here.

If you don’t have the DVD or wish for an easier experieince then the ToH DVD by netkas and his team is for you. ToH RC2 iso has had many successfuly reports for Intel users and there is now an AMD patch. As usual details can be found on the IRC server. For the DVD check out #leopard on irc.osx86.hu and for the AMD ppf for the DVD try #leoamd. To apply the patch use PPF-o-matic for Windows.

So, some of you already have it and are saying how can I fix my problems? Well I am compiling a database in my new Wiki and will give a brief summary here:

For the first boot crashes and loops check the Wiki again.

The Grand Master build of OS X 10.5 Leopard released today (9A581) has already been cracked for generic x86 computers. This final build has support for 32 and 64-bit systems on AMD and Intel SSE2/SSE3 processors. A variety of components such as graphics and wireless cards are supported too. This has been done by the ToH developers.

Apple's upcoming operating system, Leopard, will introduce read support for ZFS, a new high capacity capable file system which is an open source development. Apple is looking to extend support for this to read and write and thus have been releasing developer previews and the latest, version 1.1, brings the latest code to developers to try out ready for OS X's big switch whenever it will occur. The preview includes read and write support as well as the ability to create and delete "zpools" which are like virtual partitions laid on top of a set of drives, partitions or just files.
