Radeon HD Roundup

Netkas has been busy recently with Natiti with lots of support Radeon HD users. The following cards are now supported:

  • 3870 X2
  • 3870
  • 3850
  • 2600PRO
  • 2600XT

The new natit can be found here. (Original Post) 2600PRO and 3850 users will need the white menu fix found in #radeonhd channel on IRC (irc.osx86.hu). The Radeon HD 3870 X2 will function as two cards if you have more than 2 DVI ports, else will appear as one, full package on IRC.

Don’t forget PC-EFI is essential for this.

9.2.0 Speedstep kernel now with added shutdown

Netkas has updated the 9.2.0 kernel for OS X 10.5.2 Hackintoshes to fix the shutdown issue experienced by some. The new kernel is for Intel/AMD SSE2/SSE3 users and can be found as usual in the #10.5 irc channel.

9.2.0 Speedstep kernel and new SMBIOS

A new kernel built from source for 10.5.2 has been released from netkas. This kernel, 9.2.0 includes speedstep and support for both SSE2 and SSE3 CPUs. If you are using PC_EFI you can also grab a new SMBIOS here which adds more information to System Profiler. If you experience problems with this SMBIOS you can try iGuru’s here.

OS X 10.5.2 Released

Apple have finally seeded the update to Leopard which brings the version and build number up to 10.5.2 (build 9C31). The update weighs in at a hefty 180mb and can be found on Software Update. This update addresses a number of issues and adds features such as the much needed remote disc option for MacBook Airs.

Features include:

Airport: Improves connection reliability and stability
Back to my Mac: Adds support for more third-party routers, as detailed in this article.
Dock: Updates Stacks with a List view option, a Folder view option, and an updated background for Grid view.
Desktop: Addresses legibility issues with the menu bar with an option to turn off transparency in Desktop & Screen Saver preferences.
Desktop: Adjusts menus to be slightly-less translucent overall.
iSync: Adds support for Samsung D600E and D900i phones.
RAW Image: Adds RAW image support for several cameras, as detailed in this article.
Safari: Addresses issues with Safari reliably resolving certain domains.
Time Machine: Adds a menu bar option for accessing Time Machine features (the menu extra can be enabled in Time Machine preferences).
Time Machine: Improves backup reliability when computer name contains slash or non-ASCII characters.
Time Machine: Addresses issues in which some external drives are not recognized by Time Machine.

As usual PC_EFI and vanilla kernel users may update immediately using the following instructions. Other hackintosh users may need to wait.

UPDATE: Non vanilla users may now use this to temporarily upgrade until a 9.2.0 kernel is patched. Discuss here.

OS X 10.5.2 Build 9C30

Apple have seeded the latest build of the upcoming OS X 10.5.2 update with build 9C30, this follows shortly after a string of previous updates. Flaws from previous versions in Time Machine and the AFP Client X have been fixed and this is released with no known issues. Expect a release soon as Apple polish off this update. This could be the final release.
