Of Microsoft, PDAs and embedded systems

I have now upgraded to Windows Mobile 6 (codenamed Crossbow) on my Wizard and all seems very nice, some nice new features, a complete graphics overhaul to match vista and a nice new remote desktop client that coincides with 6.0 for the desktop. As usual I am very impressed with it, Microsoft have a tendency to make very reliable and flexible OSes for embedded systems in my opinion. Having tried both Palm and Windows Mobile since the WM2003 version I have come to the conclusion that Windows Mobile allows a greater deal of flexibility and is more for a "tweaker" than a "consumer" whereas Palm is very user-friendly orientated. Windows XP and the like may have their problems but in the mobile sector they really do well by providing a an environment which lets you do almost anything.

Another thing I am pleased about is the new inclusion of Windows Live Messenger for the pocket pc meaning lots of the new features are now available on the go.

I would be interested to hear from anyone that has extensively used Windows Mobile/CE and Symbian and I invite them to contact me if they wish to write a realatively brief comparison for the blog!
